One day, King Vajrangada went hunting in the forests near Arunachala.
During the hunt, he saw a strange and radiant animal. In many traditional tellings, this animal is described as a musk deer (civet-like creature) — not an ordinary animal, but one with a divine purpose.
The king became determined to capture it. Mounted on his powerful horse, he chased the animal at great speed.
The Unknowing Girivalam
The mysterious animal ran toward Arunachala Hill and began circling it. The king followed closely, fully focused on the chase.
👉 Without realizing it, the king completed a full circumambulation of Arunachala — what devotees today call Girivalam (Pradakshina).
This was not planned.

As soon as the king completed the full circle around the Hill:
